White House Restaurant offering a delicious spread of great Arabian and Malabar special food items is one of the best traveller pit stop in the district at Makkam, on the Calicut-Wayanad Highway, near to Odungakkaad Juma Masjid. Mandhi, Pidi Kozhi Porichathu, Dum Biriyani, Fish Curry Meals are some of the must try cuisines here. Though open from 7 am in the morning till midnight, to enjoy a fulfilling afternoon feast would be the best time to visit this restaurant.
White House Restaurant is a truly a highway hotel at its best. The restaurant handles rush of customers all day long, mostly travellers who stop by to munch on some good food in between their journey. Regular customers at this restaurant are very few.
The classy look of this restaurant is sure to attract your attention. Located 10 kilometres away from Thamarassery town while coming from Calicut, this place is hard to give a miss. A white single-storeyed building in the midst of a humongous, beautifully tiled parking area is indeed very appealing. There are security personnel to assist the customers with parking of their vehicles.Another prominent landmark would be Odungakkaad Juma Masjid which is in close proximity with this restaurant.
‘Chicken Mandhi’ is the most sought after item from the menu here. The rice with an extra dab of ghee and lingering taste of marinated special chicken masala are what make this dish a welcoming change unlike the usual bland tasting mandhi available elsewhere .‘Pidi Kozhi Porichathu’ is another finger-licking dish where small full chicken smeared with Kerala spices is dunk fried in oil, giving it a bright golden colour. It tastes as if it was dipped in an egg batter before frying.
White House Restaurant’s ‘Dum Biriyani’ has that authentic Malabar taste to it mesmerizing you all the more with its aroma. Chicken inside the biriyani is well cooked, giving it a soft, juicy texture. The biriyani is served here with pickle, salad and a special sauce. ‘Chemmeen Tawa Fry’ is a dish with a stark yellow colour. It is made by fryingthe prawns lightly over a tawa that accounts for its special taste while the colour comes from the local masalas used in its preparation.
This restaurant has three main dining areas with comfortable wooden furnishing. Though it offers you a good reception, the size of its air conditioned dining space is too small to accommodate all the customers at times.
