This small eatery in Vizhinjam has become a bastion for seafood lovers in Trivandrum. Get to this place during their weekend dinner hours and you can see for yourself, how popular this place has become. Open from 4 in the morning till 11 pm at night, the best time to visit this place will be during their dinner hours. Chippy, Koonthal, Neymeen fry, Velapara fry etc are some of their must-try items.
Earlier known as Firdos Hotel, they changed their hotel's name to Ustad Hotel, like many others at that time after the release of the super hit movie with the same name. But unlike many such hotels that had a brief stint and died out, they survived and indeed become a favourite haunt of food lovers. Now Ustad Hotel has become a must visit place for any seafood lover who might come anywhere near the Vizhinjam Harbour area.
Owned and operated by Maideen Adima and his family, this small eatery is famous for their varieties of dishes and the special homely taste of their dishes. The seafood items to choose from including Neymeen, Velapara, Avoli, Choora, Squid, Netholi, Mussels, Ayala, Neduva etc. Unlike many other seafood places that concentrated on different types of curries using seafood, this place distinguishes itself with their speciality fried dishes.
Sulaimani or Lemon Tea they serve here is also quite unique in its looks and taste. The bottom layer is filled with lime and the tea essence floating on top instead of mixing them both. Sulaimani from this place taste more like lime than that of tea but is awesome for instaworthy photos and if you ask the youngsters flocking this place, is more important than taste.
Freshly caught seafood is the main reason for the taste along with their secret masalas. Unlike many seafood places which gets more customers during the lunch hours, the main rush hour at this place is during their evening hours when tourist come to visit the sunset at Vizhinjam.
Located opposite Mohdeen Palli at Vizhinjam Harbour itself, they don’t have any parking space of their own but finding parking space at the harbour area won’t be much of an issue. They have a very limited dining area with just one single hall, so if you get to this place during their rush hours, be ready to wait for some time before you get space to sit down.
