For anyone on a mind blowing trip through the ‘Green Paradise’ of Kerala and who loves to eat unniyappam, Unniyappakkada is where you should head to. Located at ThettaRoad, Tholpetty near to Thirunnelly temple, this place serves you some of the tasty unniyappams from 6 am in the morning till the stock lasts. But the best time to relish these freshly prepared unniyappams would be the morning hours.
Unniyappakkada located on the mountainous terrain of the beautiful district of Wayanad draws in numerous customers everyday. This small shop on Thetta Road, Tholpetty right at the junction towards Tholpetty and Thirunnelly temple is mostly frequented by travellers to and from Karnataka and pilgrims visiting the temple. But people also visit this place just for the love of the unniyappams they serve here. The trip down the Thetta Road that leads you to this shop starting from Kattikulam towards Tholpetty is one that enthralls travellers with the beauty of lush green nature.
The unniyappams of Unniyappakkada are prepared by the owners of this small shop, a family who live here itself. This eatery is attached to their house where they make the unniyappam in the same kitchen they prepare food for the family. Following traditionalmethods, the preparation of this sweet dish starts from early morning. They make limited number of unniyappam to avoid wastage and the shop shuts down usually by the afternoon once the stock gets over.A generous amount of ghee along with the special ingredients is used for making the unniyappams, which accounts for its mouth-watering taste. Moreover, they are freshly prepared everyday and no material from the previous day is used in its preparation. This is why unniyappam from this place is relatively costly but nevertheless it is an all-time favourite among the travellers and pilgrims here often buy it in large quantities to take back home for their loved ones.
Unniyappakkada with its hay thatched roof, concrete benches and surrounded by greenery gives youa close-to-nature feel. Apart from unniyappam, they also serve idli, tea and coffee to its customers.Hygiene is an important aspect that the owners of this shop take care of by serving customers in clean plates everytime.
