In a city where restaurants come and go every month, to be functioning for more than 100 years is no small feat. Grand Hotel at Civil Station Road, Aluva, has been serving its customers for 112 years and still going strong with its same old cuisine and style. They are open from 7:30 am to 8 pm everyday except for Sundays but its best to visit them during their lunch hours. Biriyani, Beef Roast, Mutton Roast, Beef Fry Etc are some of their must try dishes.
Known among the locals and old timers as ‘Kochakkade Kada’, The Grand Hotel is one of the iconic restaurant of Aluva area. Started by K.C Kochu, this 100 year old restaurant is presently run by the third generation of the family. When they say they are the oldest running restaurants in the state, there are only very few restaurants which can even think about matching the claim.
Located at Civilstation Road at Grand Junction, this restaurant is a land mark on its own. Ask anyone you see in Aluva and they will know about this place. For many this restaurant is part of their most nostalgic culinary experiences from Aluva. As they are at one of the most busiest areas in the city its hard to get a parking near this restaurant.
From the starting period itself Biriyani served at this place has been their most famous item. Prepared with their own recipe which has small rice and semi fried chicken pieces, this is a must try item from this place. Beef Puffs they make everyday freshly at this restaurant is another item to try out. All their dishes are prepared in the traditional style, which is why they haven’t lost their charm with their regular customers who have been visiting this place for years.
Beef roast, Mutton Roast, Beef Fry, Pazham Roast etc are some of their other speciality dishes. Their afternoon lunch hours are the busiest time when the whole restaurant will be completely filled.
The Grand Hotel is a pretty big and spacious restaurant. They still have that retro ambience maintained with wooden ceilings and wall panels followed by wooden furniture that reminds you of this restaurants heritage. Entering this restaurant and having food from this place is an experience unlike any other. Its a glimpse into the wellness of yester years food style and culture.
