Varieties of ‘Puttu’ items are the specialityof this restaurant. The ‘Puttu’are prepared using different types of ingredients. ‘Marble Puttu’has a combination of various ingredients like maze flour, muthari, wheat flour, chemba and rice flour that are stacked in different layers one after the other. Each layer of the ‘Puttu’ has a different colour and taste of its own.
‘Dum Biriyani’ is another dish you must try from this restaurant. This item is also called ‘Man Kudukka Biriyani’ as it is served in an earthen pot. The ‘Dum Biriyani’ is cooked using traditionalMalabar recipe and served in a mud container to retain the essence of the dish. ‘Kozhi Chuttathu’ has a tinge of tangy taste. It is prepared by marinating the chicken with Kerala spices and then grilling it till the masalas get charred.
‘Chicken Kurumulaku’ is nothing but ‘Pepper Chicken’ prepared in Kerala style. With red coloured gravy and grinded pepper smeared all over it, this is a much spicier version of the original dish. ‘Chicken Pachamulaku’ is also a dish to try from this restaurant. It is a favourite combo item to have with ‘Puttu’. Use of green chilli paste in its preparation is what renders this gravy dish a green colour and spicy taste.
Thakkaram Restaurant’s reception area welcomes customers with a display of photographs sof the varieties of ‘Puttus’ available here. There are two spacious dining halls. While, the one on the ground floor is not air-conditioned, the upstairs one offers a better ambience and is good for those visiting with family. Both the dining spaces are well-furnished with a Malabar touch.
