Well Known for their Puttu and combination dishes, Puttukada was established before Independence and is located opposite KSRTC bus stand, Karunagappally. Another feature of this restaurant which makes it endearing is their 24 hours service all throughout the week. Apart from different varieties of puttu you can also try Karimeen pollichathu, mutton curry and beef curry from this highway restaurant.
On the far stretch between Alappuzha and Kollam on NH 47, puttukada is the only proper restaurant that offers24 hours service on all days of the week. Then that’s just one of the many reasons which make this place a famous among the highway travelers who pass by. As the name of the restaurant suggest, Puttu dishes that are prepared in traditional style are speciality item to try from this place.
There isn’t much of an ambience to talk about this restaurant which experiences heavy rush during any given time of the day. Most of the restaurant is partially converted into a duty paid shop with merchandise filled on the shelves attached to the walls. Although this might be a cool marketing technique, you might feel like having food inside a duty paid shop rather than a restaurant. Out of the two dining areas they have, one is air conditioned and used as family dining area.
Chiratta Puttu made in coconut shell is the much coveted dish from their menu. With lots of coconut scrapes stuffed inside this is a variety preparation of the common household dish Puttu for you to try with their array of gravy side dishes. Mutton curry with comparatively large chunks fresh mutton and gravy with its unique dish is a perfect combo with any of their special Puttu dishes.
From their seafood cuisine you can try Thala Curry prepared with full head of any available fish with hot red masala. This tangy and sour dish, courtesy of its two main ingredients – chili powder and tamarind tastes superb. Karimeen Pollichathu, another local style preparation is made memorably unique here. Thick masala clad pearl spot fish is wrapped in banana leaves and before frying it in a pan.
They do have plenty of parking area for their customers infront of the restaurant which makes it ideal and easy stop by place in Karunagapally town.
