If not for its awsome North Indian Cuisine, Punjabi restaurant looks like an ordinary eatery from any other aspect of this restaurant. Located on Kalarikkal Bazaar, Kottayam near to Jose Jewellers, this restaurant usually opens from 11:30 am to 9 pm on all days of the week. Stuffed Punjabi Chicken, tandoori chicken, barbeque chicken, Triple Five Chicken are some of the best dishes to try from this restaurant which is at its best during their lunch and dinner hours.
Although they were in the town since 1975, Punjabi Restaurant is kind of the best kept secret in the culinary journey through the town. The location and how they have avoided much signboards and nameplates shows the owners of the restaurant don’t have much intention in making this secret public any time soon.
This restaurant is a pretty hard one to locate for first time visitors. From K.K road one has to turn from the Bata showroom towards the Kalarickal Bazaar and restaurant can be spotted on right side from Ayyappas textiles. There is another entry from the side of Jose Jewelers too. Another branch of this restaurant is also there at K.K road, above the Bata showroom. This restaurant has a very congested space for parking so its always better to park at the pay and park on Kuriens road.
Although they have an extensive and exhaustive north Indian menu, Stuffed Punjabi Chicken is one dish you shouldn’t miss from their menu. With very less oil used in its preparation, this dish has minced chicken with gravy stuffed inside an omelet. But that only says half the story about this awesome dish which should be tasted to experience what the fuss is all about.
Served as an alternate for Dragon Chicken, Triple Five Chicken uses similar pieces of chicken roasted in a completely different masala with thick brown gravy. Tandoori Chicken grilled after marinating with red hot masala is another dish to look forward from having here. Best tried with naan, this dish is served with specially prepared mayonnaise.
With its single square dining area and bit outdated furnishing this place has very drab and ordinary looking ambience. But they do have care for their customers and has efficient service with uniformed waiters. You can place your ‘take away’ orders at the reception and they also have a waiting area for their parcel customers.
