With special attention given to Punjabi dishes, Punjabi Di Rasoi serves superb vegetarian dishes from the North Indian cuisine. This restaurant located on Silk Street opposite St. Josephs School on Silk Street opens from 7:30 am to 11 pm on all days of the week, although the best time to visit this place is during their dinner hours. Paneer tikka thiranga, tandoori baby corn, kadai paneer, jalebi naal rabri are some of their main dishes to try.
For a foodie, Calicut city is a true paradise with its superb local cuisine dishes and restaurants which offers variety of cuisines and maintains fairly good standards, courtesy of the hard to please taste buds of the natives. But when it comes to vegetarian restaurants in the city, suddenly the options seem so limited and in that too, a true north Indian cuisine restaurant is almost difficult to find. Punjabi Di Rasoi ended the cities much yearned need for a fine dine vegetarian restaurant with North Indian cuisine.
This place opposite St Josephs School on Silk Street is the brain child of a techie who noticed the absence of a decent north Indian vegetarian hub inside the city. You can easily access this place from Gandhi Square near the beach but as they don’t have any separate parking area, you can park on the sides of the road in front of the restaurant.
Three different flavored paneer – Malai with white color, mint with green color and chili with orange color – skewered and grilled in tandoor to resemble the colors of national flag, Paneer tikka thiranga is an awesome starter dish to try. Mushroom stuffed with mint and marinated with cheese and broiled in tandoor give another chef special delight from this place by the name Judwa mushroom.
Kadai paneer, with its viscous gravy and less spicy preparation with capsicum and onion gravy is a great side dish to try with any of their varieties of naan and rotti dishes. After you have finished with their main course dishes, its time to dig into some of the sweet north Indian desserts they serve at this place. Jalebi naal rabri, a lusciously sweet dish, with jalebis prepared on order by the customer, served with sweet rabri sauce prepared with sweetened and cooled milk and topped with cashews.
Furnished with wooden tables and chairs, their single air conditioned dining area has a pleasant and classy décor and a posh looking ambience. With Knowledgeable staff, service at this place is very effective and they do accept reservations from their customers. Its best to visit this delightful north Indian restaurant during their dinner hours.
