Malabar dishes are a delight in itself and Ojeen bakery, situated on the busy Marine Drive Road, hidden from the view behind SBI building, will make you fall in love with this exquisite cuisine again and again everytime you visit this place. This is an eatery you are never going to forget about it once you have the dishes they offer.
All most every food item native to Malabar is available at the place. Unnakkaya, Kaypola, Kabsa, Kilikoodu, Poovappam, Muttamaala, Irachipathiti, Rotti Nirachathu, Samiya Ada, Elachi, Kadalapola thus goes the list of endless items available at the place. The dishes are a treat to the eye as it is to the tummy as it varies in different shapes and sizes.
For anybody who comes from south Kerala and haven’t tried any Malabar recommended dishes are ‘Muttamaala’ and ‘Unnakkaya’. None of you guys can even imagine about a dish made out of egg mixed with sugar right? Then ‘Muttamala’ is going to surprise you. It is a sweet dish made from egg white baked into pudding and sugary egg yolk as a rigid garland above it. ‘Unnakkaya’ is coconut, nuts and kismis mixed and then wraped with boiled banana.
‘Kabsa’, an Arabic version of biriyani is something you can try if you are really hungry and mere snacks can’t quench your appetite. This dish is prepared with very less spices and oil is a must try for the sheer variety of the dish from ordinary biriyanis. Kilikoodu is another peculiar dish on the menu, which stays true to its name and looks like a bird’s nest. Egg covered in masala and flour is later covered with semiya and fried in oil to prepare this awsome dish.
They are open from 9 in the morning till 9 at night, although the best time to be at this place is from 3 pm to 7 pm. This bakery owned by Shafeek has been working at Marine Drive Road for last four years. The only thing this place lacks is enough space and good ambience. You will have to wait for place to have if you go to this place during their rush hours. They also have branch at Edapally near to Lulu Mall. This is an ultimate hangout for anyone who loves the Malabar cuisine.
