MVK Restaurant is the place anybody living in Kannur would suggest first if you are looking around to taste the best Biriyani in town. And it won’t be an exaggeration to say that the taste of the ‘Biriyani’ available here is indeed marvellous. But the special dishes from this restaurant are not limited to ‘Biriyani’ alone. There are other items that are quite popular too.
The restaurant is situated just 200 metres away from the Munishwaram Kovil Junction and is one of the most renowned restaurants in the city. It also has a sister concern named ‘Cool Land’located at the starting of the S.N.Road itself. This road is the one that leads from Munishwaram Kovil Junction to Payyambalam Beach.
Though the restaurant looks pretty small from outside, it has a considerably clean ambience with simple furnishing. Both the ground floor and first floor dining areas of the hotel are laid out with cushioned steel chairs and steel tables with wooden tops.
‘Chicken Biriyani’ is the most popular biriyani item from this restaurant. The chicken pieces are soft, smooth and tastes good with the biriyani rice. Among all the spices used in the preparation, cloves give a dominating flavour to this dish. ‘Mutton Biriyani’ comes a close second to ‘Chicken Biriyani’ considering the demand from customers. Tender pieces of mutton along with rice are cooked well with limited amount of ghee and tastes awesome. Salad and pickle are also served with the ‘Biriyanis’.
‘Mutton Chaps’ is another item you must try from here. The small pieces of mutton are cooked with lots of oil. The use of coriander in the ginger-garlic gravy leaves behind a lingering taste in your mouth. ‘Pepper Chicken’contains two large pieces of chicken in grey coloured thick oily gravy. It is a good side dish to try with chappati or parotta.
The best time to visit this restaurant is during the lunch hours. Meals are not served here in the afternoons. When it comes to parking, you cannot leave your vehicle anywhere on the roadside near the restaurant as the roads are pretty narrow and congested. It’s better to pay and park in the nearby shopping complex instead.
