Although Manis café starts from 7 am to 11 pm, the apt time visit this place is from 12 pm to 5 pm, when they serve their famous ela ada. Its this single dish, that made this otherwise ordinary hotel a major food spot in Palakad town. You can also try breakfast dishes from this hotel on Olavakode Railwaystation Road opposite Shakthimarriamman Temple.
When you see this hotel from outside there is every possibility for you to doubt, what’s all this fuss about? The special dish from this place, ela ada, is also something so simple and so commonly available in every other shop in Kerala. But, rest assured, there is something different about their ela ada’s , which makes it so popular among foodies in Palakad.
The wide popularity of this place is partly indebted to the position of the restaurant also. This restaurant is the last building, on a very cramped road leading to the old gate of the railway station, directly opposite Shakthi Marriamman temple. As so many commuters from all over Kerala pass through this station every day, the location, so close to the restaurant has definitely helped to spread the word about their tasty treats.
The sweet local snack by the name, Ela ada, is their most sought after snack. Avil, bananas, sharkara, ada and ghee are main ingredients that are goes inside the wrapping to give a sweet molten mix. This dish, that is prepared and served to you after wrapping in banana leaves is best had right after its preparation, which is around 12 pm till the stock runs out, usually by 5 pm.
Thairu saadham is a Tamil dish available from this restaurant, courtesy to the close proximity of the district to Tamil Nadu. This simple dish is a mix of mashed rice and curd, which gives it a slight sour taste of the curd. Masala dosa with well cooked potato masala inside is a breakfast dish, famous from this restaurant. This dish is served with chutney, sambar and special chutney.
Plastic and steel chairs and granite topped tables are used in furnishing this restaurant, like ordinary restaurants nearby. You won’t be dining in perfect conditions as this place doesn’t have much ventilation which turns the place into a hot tandoor during afternoon hours in summer. They have tried to rectify this problem, by installing as many fans as they could fit into the ceilings. Its best, if you visit this restaurant during their breakfast and evening hours, when they serve their best dishes and the place is much cooler.
