This is a peculiar restaurant functioning in a small auditorium near Mahadeva temple at Kilimanoor. Mahadeva sadhyalayam is the name of the auditorium and don’t expect veg ‘sadhya’ from this place. Afternoon meals and fish fry and the occasional payasam they serve with meals on special days is what they got noticed among their patrons for. They are closed on all Sundays and are open from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm every other day.
Its very easy to mistook this place for a vegetarian restaurant from the name of this restaurant. Actually, this restaurant which doesn’t have any name of its own is known by the name of the auditorium in which it functions in.
This auditorium is leased for marriages and functions but that doesn’t hinder the daily activities of the restaurant and as these people cater for the marriage functions happen at this place, they also serve special payasam to their customers without any charge whenever there is a marriage function. Only shame is that there is no way to know beforehand, on which days they serve the payasam with their meals, so its all upto luck.
Meals served here is just basic and simple thing with three different side dishes, pickle and pappadam. They serve these superb meals in traditional style in banana leaves and you can leave the leaves at the table itself and will be cleared by them. Fish fry usually prepared with sardine fish fried to its core and made crispy felt stunning combination with the meals they serve. Tasty food combined with reasonable prices, this place attracts a lot of regular customers, most of them are government bureaucrats working in nearby offices.
Although this place is devoid of any sign boards its pretty easy to find this place, as it is directly opposite to Mahadeva temple. While coming from Trivandrum turn right from the highway towards Mahadeva temple and the restaurant is barely 50 meters up the road. Most of the days food gets finished by 2 o' clock itself due to heavy rush.
This place which functions in this old auditorium is mainly furnished using ordinary wooden benches and desks but that doesn’t seem to affect their regular customer base. Parking space is not available, although one can park on the sides of the roads by the temple.
