Afternoon meals and fish fry made, Lunch house, an age old restaurant in the city bask in the rays of glory. In fact meals and fish fry are the only dishes available at this hotel, which is open from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm, everyday except Sundays. Lunch house is located near beach fire station on Convent road Calicut.
Homely meals setups are just great! You get tasty food, homely preparation and cheap rates! What’s their not to like about such a place? Ambience can be cited as one reason, as most of these places has very constricted space and deals with more customers than they could afford to handle. Lunch house restaurant, with more than 45 years of service in the city has been showing their customers this is not necessarily the case always.
They have amalgamated all the goodness of a homely meals establishment, minus its drawbacks. This place was founded by Bhaskaran in Thamarassery town and later shifted to its current position, where it stayed for years to come. Lunch house is near Beach fire station on Convent Road, which is the first left after Tagore hall, when coming from C.H over bridge.
What makes meals and fish fry from this restaurant qualify for homely food status is their preparation methods, which doesn’t include artificial flavors or masalas and the importance they give to hygiene and health. Two side curries, curd, pappad, pickle and gundu mulaku are the sides they serve with the meals, along with a small cup of butter milk and various other ozhichu curries. But the seer fish you can add on with their meals is the real show stealer from this place with its awesome taste without being too spicy and with a juicy taste. Mackerel and prawns fry are also available here.
Their service with ‘three minute’ delivery is exemplary, with more than enough waiters to attend to the needs of the customers and you can leave the banana leaves in which they serve meals at the table itself after finishing.
They maintain a token system to handle their lunch time rush, which starts by 12:30 and often people wait for their turn to have food at rush hours, even after the restaurant being quite spacious. You have to first pay for the dishes you need, at the cash counter and later handover the token to the waiter, who will deliver you the dish you paid for. The natural taste of their dishes without any added flavor is the main reason for the popularity of this restaurant.
