Lakshmi Hotel at Ponnamveli, Pattanakkadu near Ponnamveli Junction is a pure vegetarian highway restaurant famous for its superb Dosas. Luring food-lovers week long from 7am to 9 pm, morning or evening would be the perfect time to come here and gorge on Masala Dosa, one of the main items to try from this restaurant.
Lakshmi Hotel is a favourite highway pit stop of many celebrities and film stars. Over 75 years old, this restaurant has been following certain traditions which help it to still retain the taste and quality of its food that people has liked for generations now. Presently managed by the third generation of the family, T.M. Muralidharan Nair is the current owner of the restaurant which was started by his uncle’s uncle.
Located near Ponnamveli Junction, Pattanakkad, this hotel is just three and a half kilometres away from Thuravoor Junction. Parking space is available along the roadside in front of the restaurant.
‘Dosa’ is the main dish to try from here. The perfectly made Dosa is served steaming hot with sambar and chutney. The taste of the side dishes is also something that makes the dosa taste different from the usual ones. ‘Masala Dosa’ is another dosa variety much in demand in this restaurant. Thick potato masala is wrapped inside thin, crispy dosa and is served with tasty sambar and chutney. Vegetarian meals are also served during the afternoon hours.
The consistency and the special taste of the dishes available here are said to be a product of a whole lot of factors. Food is cooked in this hotel using an earthen oven till date and the dosas are prepared only on receiving order from the customers to serve it hot. No excess of water is added in the chutney or sambar to increase its quantity in order to serve it more people. The restaurant pulls down its shutter as soon as the dishes get over. No left over items of previous day are used the next day. For that matter, there are no refrigerators in this restaurant at all. Even tea and coffee is prepared using the milk from the cows owned by the restaurateur.
Lakshmi Hotel has a single dining room that is furnished with plastic chairs and tables with granite tops. The entire place is maintained very hygienically. This restaurant has no other branch.
