Kaipunyam restaurant, near Munishwaram Kovil, on S.N road, registered quite a stir among the foodies in Kannur with their traditional Karala cuisine dishes. Although they are open from 6 am to 11 pm everyday except for special holidays, the best time to visit this place is during their afternoon hours. Kozhi nirachathu, fish curry meals, kallummakkaya thawa fry are some of the dishes yo must try from this place.
People often like to try new cuisines and explore delicacies, but there is always a sweet spot in their mind for the local cuisines ones tastes buds are accustomed to and this is the reason why any good local cuisine restaurant is an instant success. Kaipunyam restaurant is another one in the long list of restaurants in Kerala that got noticed for its mouthwatering traditional Kerala style dishes.
Kozhinirachathu is their flagship dish, prepared by stuffing delicious mix of grated chicken pieces and onion masala inside a full chicken after marinating the chicken in their own recipe and deep frying the dish later in oil and frying. This yummy dish with rich masala taste on the outside and luscious stuffing inside is a must try dish. Their fish curry meals is another dish which makes them a popular among the locals with two tasty side dishes, tasty fish curry and great sambar curry.
Dry rich masala taste is what gives their Kallummakaya thawa fry, a specialty from their seafood platter a very pleasant palatable dish without using too much oil for the sake of taste. Chemballi pollichathu is a specialty from many of their fish delicacies, which is prepared by smothering the fish in local masala and later roasting the dish after wrapping it with banana leaves, to give a culinary delight that melts in mouth.
This restaurant on S.N Road, near Munishwaram Kovil, Kannur has three spacious dining areas, one of which is an air conditioned family dining area on first floor. Aft all this space, this place gets filled up in their afternoon peak hours.
Fish items available are marinated and kept at the entrance itself for you to choose from and are fried on order of the customers. They have an open kitchen setup where they prepare most of the dishes, infront of their customers. Chinese and barbeque dishes are also available for their customers.
