Kadalundi Meen Kada aka Hotel Kailasam near Puthiya Palam at Kadalundi kadavu is a small eatery that functions from a house. Famous for its fish fries and meals. This place is open only during lunch hours from 12 pm to 3 pm every day. When coming from Calicut you need to take a turn to Farok Railway Station Road from Chaliyam and then travel down the Beach Road towards Kadalundi Puthiya Palam. You can find this housejust before the bridge around a curve on the right side.
The success of this small hotel functioning from a shed next to a house is the best example to show that if the food it tasty and good nothing else really matters. For a first timer this place is hard to locate and by its look you may even get skeptical about the popularity of this hotel. But once you taste the food here there will certainly be no room for any doubt whatsoever.
Though registered as Hotel Kailasam, this restaurant is commonly known as Meenkada. It is located near Puthiya Palam at Kadalundikkadavu. When coming from Calicut you need to take a turn to Farok Railway Station Road from Chaliyam and then travel down the Beach Road towards Kadalundi Puthiya Palam. Fish fries are the special item here. Same masala is used to marinate all the fishes before frying. Different types of fishes are availablevarying in different size and weight. Big fishes taste better when fried with this masala. If you want to try the bigger fish varieties then it’s better to call and book the fish before you reach here. They will even buy the fish you prefer and prepare the dish if you place an order beforehand. Priority is always given to customers who opt for a pre-booking. So, it is advisable to call them up and select the fish you wish to eat.
‘Eri’ is one among the many fishes available here. It has a wide body with white flesh. The fish is marinated for a brief time and then deep fried. ‘Thirutha’ is another fish variety having a long and thin structure. This fish also tastes great after deep frying it with the masala coating. All the dishes available here are prepared then and there itself after you place an order and served hot.
‘Chemmeen’ is also dunk fried in oil till the prawn gets charred slightly but retains its luscious taste. This dish goes very well with the meals which is the only main course item served in this hotel. They offer a special treat on the first day of every month by serving Payasam along with the meals. Smaller fishes are also available here at cheaper rates for daily customers. Chemballi, Eri, Amoor, Karimeen, Pooyan, Thirutha, Vettan are some of the fish varieties you get to eat in this restaurant.
The owners of Hotel Kailasam deal with their customers in a warm and friendly manner. Such a welcome and approach is enough to bring you back to this pint-sized eatery over and over again. Though there is a parking area available in front of the restaurant, the ambience of this place is nothing much with just a few chairs and benches laid out to accommodate the customers.
