This is one mobile Thattukkada that didn’t change its location for the past 25 years. Irani Restaurant which operates from a van serves its customers from 7:30 pm to 11 pm every day at Vallayambalam. Kerala special dishes like Beef Chilly, Chilly Chicken, Beef Fry, Chicken fry etc are some of the must-try dishes from this local eatery. Porotta is the all-time favourite combo with any of these dishes.
The peculiar name of this place will be the first thing one will notice upon their first visit to this small eatery. Ask Abbaz chettan, owner of the place, who is around all the time and he will smile and say, “Its a good name isn’t it”. Name Irani Fast Food without much explanation, the taste of their dishes is something else that doesn’t need much explanation either.
Its a very familiar sight for people in Vellayambalam when they see Abbaz chettan and his acquaintances setting up shop in their Van once it starts to get dark. They open their shop at 7:30 pm but the work towards that go time starts much before. For 25 years they did the same and they still do because of the quality of their food and service.
No one is unfamiliar to Abbaz chettan, who greets everyone with his warm broad smile. He comes and enquires about your food and expects feedback from you, either good or bad. Before he serves you Porottas, he has his own signature move where he tosses up the Porotta and gives it a nice squeeze before serving it to you.
Beef dishes they serve here are the favourites with the Porotta. Beef Chilly and Beef fry are exceptional with its unique mouth-watering taste. Mixed with lots of diced onion, their Beef Chilly has that mildly spicy taste that helps you enjoy the dish without burning your mouth with each bite. Beef Fry from this place is not exactly dry but has that oily thick gravy wrapped around beef pieces. The taste of that thick, creamy gravy is all it takes to make this item legendary.
Dishes here are served in paper plates which are slightly uncomfortable to hold while standing. They don’t have their own parking area but during night hours its easy to find parking near the roadside without any problems. They have located near the Bus Stop on Vellayambalam – Thycaud road.
Although a thattukkada, this place is frequented by family customers as well as high-end customers. One thing you can be sure about whether you are a newbie or a regular is equal and fair treatment. You can pull up in your car and they will serve you there itself too according to your convenience.
