Started back in 1994, Hotel Star near Old Aroor Police Station at Aroor Mukkam, has been serving its customers with some excellent seafood delights. This restaurant which operates on the ground floor of the owner’s home is open for afternoon meals from 12 pm to 4 pm everyday except for Sunday. Meals, Karimeen Curry, Kozhuva Fry, Thirutha Pollichathu, Machaan Pollichathu.... thus goes on the list of variety of seafood dishes available at this restaurant prepared in local Cochin style
For those who transverse to Alapuzha area from Fort Kochi, Hotel Star has always been the best stop over for lunch to enjoy some of the best of seafood dishes prepared in local style. Open only for lunch, afternoon meals coupled with seafood and varieties of fish dishes has always been a favourite of their patrons.
When started back in 1994, this eatery was a small shop right next to the owner’s home. Now they have a much better ambience restaurant space right beneath owners home. From the beginning itself all the main cooking at the restaurant is done by the family members itself, which gives that unique taste to each one of their dishes you won’t get anywhere else in Kerala.
The choices of fishes and different preparations in which they are available to you is the main attraction you have in this place. Karimeen, Thirutha, Eri, Kozhuva, Machaan, Kalanchi, Philopy thus goes the list of different fish varieties available here with various preparation methods like curry, Pollichathu, Fry etc. Unlike the usual practice you see in these types of restaurants, Meals from this restaurant is quite good on its own and you can finish it off without having to bother for any side dishes. The excellent pullissery they serve with the meals is more than enough to relish on their meals.
‘Pollikkal’ type of preparation available for big fish varieties is their speciality and even foreigners come to the restaurant in search of it. They have two spacious dining areas here furnished with basic plastic furniture. Its best to get to this place by 12 pm itself as the rush sets in by 1 pm and you might have to wait to have your turn.
When you are travelling from Alapuzha to Thoppumpady, this restaurant is just one and a half kilometres away from Aroor, just before Idakochi Bridge near Old Aroor Police Station on the right side. They don’t have much name boards or signs and as this place is beside an Ice plant, be alert after you pass Aroor.
