There are lots of people claiming that they bought the Arabian Dish of Mandhi to Kerala but according to popular opinion Hotel Madhbu introduced and Made it famous among the foodies in the state. This restaurant is located at Munduparambu Bypass at Machinghal, Malappuram and serves just one dish only – Mandhi. Open from 12 am till 10 pm afternoon lunch and evening dinner hours see this place overflowing with customers.
When you get to this place which claims to be the restaurant which bought Mandhi to Kerala, there is every chance that you might get bit disappointed by the looks of it. It looks like an ordinary single dining area restaurant without any glamour or exception to its ambience. There are no menu cards and as you take your seats the waiter will come and enquire whether you want full, half or quarter portion.
Then there is that wait for the dish. If you are lucky enough and it is a dull day you will be served with your food in 10 to 15 minutes. Once you get served with the dish, you almost zones out everything else. Then everything starts to make sense, the rush, the wait, the mediocre ambience, everything.
Served with Slathahar Sauce, Mayonnaise and vegetable salad, the Chicken Mandhi from this restaurant is worthy to hold the title of being the first Mandhi that introduced Malayalies to this Arabian delicacy. If this was the first one we got to taste then no wonder this dish got so famous all over Kerala and inspired numerous spin offs and imitations.
They have an open Kitchen setup right beside the entrance where they prepare vessel after vessel of Chicken Kuzhi Mandhi. Mutton Variety is prepared in very limited quantity or as per order so if you want to try that its best to book it prior to your visit. They have a family dining area too on the first floor of the restaurant to cater to their family customers.
Although they have renovated the place, this restaurant is located at this same location since they opened back in 2012. They are located at Mundu Parambu Bypass, Machinghal near the Junction and have ample parking space available for their patrons.
