Up, running and still widely popular, Hotel Chandra at M.G Road, Kottapuram opposite Popular tyres, has been serving the gourmets in the city with their fast food dishes for almost 60 years now. One of the restaurant in the city that opens way past midnight this restaurant opens from 6 am in the morning till 1 am at night.
Chandra hotel is one of the few joints in Thrissur that most of the late workers and students rely upon for a late night bite. For a town where almost all the shops close by 9 and restaurants by 10 Chandra restaurant lends its services till 1am in the morning. And that is just one thing that makes this restaurant a favorite among the people of Thrissur.
The rush in the place starts from evening 5 ‘o’ clock to midnight 12 ‘o’ clock. They have an open kitchen setup in front of the restaurant from evening time where you can see the dishes you order being prepared. This restaurant has two dining areas partitioned into two floors with wooden floor panels and a small steel stairway to access it.
They only use natural flavors and for such a small hotel they have maintained the dining area neat and clean. Furnishing is basic steel chairs and tables with granite tables which have the function of accommodating maximum customers. The owner himself is the main chef and is very proud of what he does, a well natured man who is happy to explain their special dishes and their preparation.
Chicken dosa is one of their evening special item which is dosa wrapped around special chicken roast masala which is really spicy with occasional green chilies that add to the taste. Kappa beef biriyani is another fast moving item. Full boiled and mashed tapioca mixed with beef and thick gravy. It tasted awesome but felt a bit overpriced.
Ceylon chicken is one of their crown dishes made with fried chicken shredded into pieces and mixed with ginger, onion and masalas. A different tasting dish that is very dry yet quite tasty. The passion of cooking and the pride of the owners in their venture has done magic for this place which although looks like any other small hotel standout and be a favorite hangout of foodies with their good food and reasonable price.
