As peculiar as its name might sound, the unusualness about this restaurant does not just end with its name. Goal face hotel is located at Paravattani, near Vimalamatha church and is popular among the foodies for their special Mutta Porotta. They are open every day from 7:30 am to 10:30 pm and serve Kerala and Chinese cuisine dishes to their customers. Fried Rice, Ney Roast, Chicken 65, etc. are some of the must-try dishes from this place.
The grandfather of the present owner, Nithin Das, started this hotel. Back in 1943, it was a small shop without any name and was known as Chakkide Kada among the patrons, who named it after her grandmother. But when Nithin’s father decided to name the hotel, he called the place after the famous heritage hotel in Colombo named ‘Gali Face,' which was confused by their patrons and became Goal Face Hotel.
This small restaurant is located at Paravattani, a place on the way from Thrissur town and Mannuthy, on the right side just after Regional Forest Office and Vimalamatha Church. Although you cannot park in front of the restaurant, which is right by the roadside, there is space on the roadside where you can park your vehicles. The current owner of the restaurant, who completed his degree in culinary art, worked with many famous chefs before coming back and did an overhaul with this place to make it a ‘Poor Man’s fine dining’ place. Although not visible from outside, they have a pretty well maintained family dining space along with their old dining area in the front.
Mutta Porotta is the one dish that made them a significant presence among the foodies in the district. This dish prepared by mixing minced porotta along with egg and green piece has scores of fans who visit this place even from far away areas. That being said, they do serve some superb other dishes like Chicken Sukka, Chicken 65, Ginger Chicken, Beef Chilly, Fish Chilly, etc. from their wide menu.
Although most of their customers are regulars, travelers who have heard about this place do stop over to taste their amazing dishes. With their tasty dishes, good ambience and fairly priced items, they have achieved to pull off their philosophy of being ‘poor man’s fine dining’ space in Thrissur.
