Evergreen Restaurant has been a part of Pathanamthitta town for more than fifty years. This restaurant near Gandhi statue, Main Junction, Pathanamthitta gives you so much insight into the food culture of the place. Mutton dishes from this restaurant have gained a cult status in the minds of regular customers of this restaurant which usually open from 7 am till 10 pm on all days of the week except government holidays.
Fresh aroma of ghee and mutton will be the first thing that welcomes you when you enter the Evergreen Hotel at Central Junction, Pathanamthitta. Evergreen Hotel which has celebrated more than fifty years of service in Pathanamthitta town has been a major landmark in the town since its inception in 1964.
Inaugurated by K.K Nair, the father of Pathanathitta district, this hotel has a rich history to talk about. Mutton dishes being the favorite from this place, there was a time in the history of the restaurant when up to 27 goats where needed to meet the demand of the hotel on a market day and people waited patiently for a chair just to relish upon the biriyani served here. Even though not on par with the good old days, this place is still bustling with activity.
Mutton Chaps with two chunks of mutton pieces served with hot peppery gravy is their hot selling dish from time immemorial. Thin Pathiri is said to be the best dish to try this dainty dish with. Mutton Biriyani with soft, chewy mutton stuffed inside biriyani rice to be served with pappadam, salad, pickle and chammandhi.
Mutton Roast with thicker gravy and smaller pieces is a dish for patrons who search for something hot and tangy from their menu. With mouth watering gravy that oozes with mutton fat, this dish makes for an awesome combo with their rotti dishes.
Ambience of the restaurant looks bit old but memories from the golden years of the restaurant decorates the walls of the restaurant with photographs of various events related to the hotel history. They have two main dining areas and a separate section screened off as family dining space.
The main problem with this restaurant is its location. This restaurant is situated at a bottleneck and traffic congestion is severe at this part. So finding parking at this area during afternoon lunch hours is going to prove as a herculean task.
