Devettante Kada is one of those hidden gems you wouldn’t know about unless you are a local from the area. Started back in 1985, this small one room restaurant is famous its Idicha Chicken and Mutton Kuruma dishes. They are open everyday from 10 am to 8 pm and evening onwards is their rush hours. Located at Kumaranellur, this restaurant is just four kilometres away from Edappal near post office.
No name plates, no sign boards, but still if you get to this place during their evening rush hours you will be amazed by the popularity this place has. The amazing part about the whole rush here is that, its not just locals and regulars who visit this place but people come from faraway places to get to try their special Idicha Chickenand Mutton Korma with hot porottas.
Idicha Chicken has that age old preparation where chicken pieces with bones are scrambled and fried with their special masalas. This that one dish that single handily put this small hotel on the food map. Mutton with its loose gravy and spicy taste is another strong contender to try with the hot porrottas they serve at this restaurant.
Porottas they serve hot and fresh at this restaurant has also garnered quite a fan base among the customers at this place. People even come to this restaurant and buy just the porotta as take aways for that same reason.
This restaurant was started back in 1985 by Mr Shankaran and was later taken over by his son Devan. They started off by serving puttu but when Devan Chettan took over this shop from his father, he introduced the new dishes which made them famous among the locals and later on among the travellers.
They don’t have any actual specific time as to when they will close down. They usually pull down their shutter as soon as the items run out which they prepare in limited quantity. Devan Chettan is really old school and doesn’t even own a phone so that the patrons can as if the shop has closed or not. Despite this still large number of people flocks this place.
