This is where Calicut Curry House steers clear from the usual notion of a Kerala cuisine restaurant, with their cool ambience and food. Kozhikodan chicken fry, pidi kozhi karivechathu, chicken cherulli varattiyathu are some of the delicacies to try from this place, which opens from 11 am to 11 pm everyday.
Calicut curry house started back in 2005 quickly became a favorite eatery of local food lovers for its food as well ambience. This comparatively newbie in restaurant business in Calicut, which has an awful lot of excellent restaurants, made a point for itself with their prime focus on the traditional Kerala Cuisine dishes.
This place is opposite Mid City Tower, on V.N.B Road, which is the road right next to the famous S.M Street, Mananchira Square and also has another branch near to Ashirwad lawns, on Karaparamba Road at Eranjipalam.
Really spicy chicken, with a dominant taste of shallot, covered with thick masala paste gives you Chicken Cherulli Varattiyathu, a must try dish from this place. The hot red color makes it a very appealing to the eyes and makes your taste buds tinkle in anticipation. Available only after 3 pm, pidikozhi karivechathu, is another remarkable and rare dish, prepared with spring chicken cooked in loose gravy, which is made with special spices, specifically for this yummy dish.
Kozhikodan chicken fry is a dish made with a single chicken piece, deep fried in oil, after marinating with Malabar special spices. They have followed the Malabar style in serving this dish, with crumbled masalas sprinkled all over the chicken pieces to add to its taste. Avoli masala fry from this place is very different from the usual Malabar fish fries, as this dish is deep fried and made crispy. This is an excellent add on to their afternoon meals, and is served with in a similar way like their chicken fry, with masala crumbs sprinkled over.
This place that has red color dominant in its ambient color scheme, gives an exuberant feeling, the moment you step into the restaurant. They have used a mix of white and red in a pleasing way to give this place a sleek and modern look, without making it overwhelming and have followed these colors in everything from waiter’s uniform to furniture.
Lunch and dinner hours are equally suitable to walk into this restaurant, which receives equal number of parcel customers as their dine-in customers. one of the two dining areas is air conditioned and they do accept catering orders for functions.
