Detailed Write-up

Chandran chettan’s tea stall has been functioning in the city for almost two decades and has been known for a peculiar combination of dish that made it a popular place among foodies in Kannur. This typical Kerala style tea stall located near Head Post office, at Old bus stand, attracts attention with a combination of Malabar dish Neypathal and fish fry.

Neypathal is a snack from the Malabar cuisine prepared with parboiled rice and grated coconut, fried in oil, to give a bubbly looking dish with a very crispy form. Fish fry with this dish is usually made from sardine without frying it too deep to retain the juicy taste of the dish with the crispiness of neypathal. Semi gravy dish of koonthal fry with its hot red color and thick masala gives a very tangy tasting dish. Various other local breakfast items are also available at this place.

Pazhampori, a local snack from Kerala, prepared by smearing batter over banana and frying it in oil is another demanded item during their evening hours. This place has a small dining space created within a tarpaulin shed for you to sit and enjoy the delicacies from this place. Most of the customers at this restaurant are regulars who work in the nearby buildings and shops.

This place is apt to go to, if you love to try something different from the usual menu. Its best to park the vehicles in front of the old bus stand premises. For such a small hotel they have a comparatively hygienic ambience and good quality food items.
