Brothers Restaurant offers Kerala cuisine at its best. Located near General Hospital Junction at Collectorate Road, this restaurant is open from 7 am to 10 pm every day except on special holidays. Come during the lunch time to enjoy a sumptuous spread of Duck roast, Meals, Karimeen Fry, Chiratta Puttu and Fish Curry- some of the dishes you must try from this restaurant.
This famous restaurant also has an equally well-known hotel by the same name- Brothers Hotel, both of which were established way back in 1973 and functions in the same compound. The hotel has a special room allotted only to people from the film industry which they use to conduct discussions and to write script for movies etc. There are many hit movies and songs that were written in this hotel. But when it comes to the restaurant, it’s all about the authentic Kerala cuisine that makes it oh-so popular.
Brothers Restaurant is located inside the Hotel complex, just 50 metres away from the General Hospital Junction at Collectorate Road. A good parking space is available inside the building compound although the entrance of the restaurant is quite narrow. This often poses to be a problem during the rush hours at the Junction.
‘Duck Roast’ is adish you must try from the Kerala cuisine dominated menu here. This dish was introduced in this restaurant on request by the famous cinematographer, P. Sukumar. Having a huge popularity among the gourmets, the peppery taste of the dark and thick gravy is the specialty of this dish. Afternoon ‘Meals’from this restaurant have all the ingredients of a complete Kerala meal and it is served with a fish curry, chammandhi, two vegetable curries, pappadam and pickle.
‘Karimeen Fry’ is another nice item to try along with the meals served here. This deep fried fish has a crispy taste. You might even mistake it to be either overcooked or even burnt considering its dark colour. But overall, it makes for an awesome side dish with any of the main course items. ‘Chiratta Puttu and Fish Curry’ is a combination worth tasting. The traditionally prepared ‘Puttu’ (rice-cake) inside a coconut shell is served with the spicy varieties of fish fries available in the restaurant.
This eatery functions in a house that has been converted into a restaurant. Therefore, it has retained that traditional homely ambience with living rooms and bed rooms converted into dining areas. Everything at Brothers Restaurant has that old but well-maintained look. There are two separate family dining spaces. Both locals and travellers frequent this restaurant that witnesses a huge rush of customers especially in the afternoons.
