Favourite hangout spot of Kerala’s start up techies. Beeranikkede Kadaas this place is fondly called by their regular customers, most of them techies, is located near to Start up Village and Reporter Channel office Kakkanadu. Low price and great food along with the personal attachment the regular customers have with this place makes this restaurant in the remote side of Kakkanad such a fond hangout. Open from 5:30 am to 9 pm, Porotta with beef Combo, Kothu Porotta, Pazhampori etc are some of their famous dishes.
If you ask the techies at Start up Village, Kakkanad, they will admit that half the ideas and decisions they had for their start ups were hatched at Beeranikka’s Hotel. The times spend by the youngest CEOs in Kerala at this small restaurant in the middle of nowhere is that much. There will be only very few people at the Start up Village who havnt visited this place ones, while most of them visits this place atleast once in a day.
The issue that will confuse most first time goers to this place will be what is so special about it. Food is decent but can’t be said extra ordinary by any means, and there are much closer places for techies, journalists and doctors who frequent this place to go other than coming down to this place. Still if you go to this small hotel during any time of the day this place will be overflowing with customers.
For first timers it will be best to visit this place during their evening hours when they serve their speciality items and have fewer customers. Kothu Porotta their most popular evening special dish to try and is truly above average. You can also try out their evening dishes like Beef and Porotta combination, which has lot of takers among the techies. Snack dishes such as Bonda and Pazhampori with tea and fresh juices are also hot selling items during evening hours.
Although this small hotel was made famous by the techies, this place has been up and running from 1964 and was founded by Beeran Ikkas father. In 1984 Beeran Ikka started this restaurant in it current location. To reach this place you should take a left just after Medical Collage, Kakkanad towards Reporter Channel building and take right at both small junctions you reach to get to this hotel located roughly two kilometres away from the Start Up Village.
Beeranikkas hotel is both a restaurant and grocery store and is in no way in shape or size to accommodate the sudden popularity it gained. There are two main dining areas furnished with benches and desks that accommodate around twenty people at a time.
The success of this otherwise ordinary hotel lies in bringing about that nostalgic t-shop ambience and food along with good service, which made it very popular among their regular customers.
