Famous for its Meals and Biriyani dishes, Bamboo Mess is at Traffic Junction, Sulthan Bathery. Although they are open from 8:30 pm to 11 pm, afternoon lunch hours will be the best time to visit this restaurant. Other Kerala style non vegetarian dishes from this restaurant are also something you can look forward to try.
Quite literally Bamboo mess can be said as the best kept secret in Sulthan Bathery town. Despite being located at one of the busiest junctions in town, you can walk right past the restaurant without noticing it. A peculiar entrance which a person can barely squeeze through is the main reason for this dilemma.
But the real surprise about this restaurant starts after you get through that narrow passage into their dining area. Its as if you walked through a magic pass way, suddenly you enter into, not one but two spacious dining areas. For such a restaurant you will be surprise to find the place clean and has uniformed waiters to wait at tables.
To be exact this restaurant is located just before Traffic Junction, when coming from Kalpetta Road on leftside after Bata Showroom and T.K Textiles. One of the main drawbacks of being at such a busy place is that, as they don’t have their own parking area, its not possible to stop anywhere near the area. One has to park their vehicles somewhere before or after the restaurant on roadside.
Meals and Ayakoora fry are the best lunch time combo you could try. Meals served with three side curries, chammandhi, pickle and papadam, has a very reasonable price range quite justifiable for the number of items and taste. Ayakoora or seer fish is fried slightly to retain the juiciness of the dish, which went well with the meals they serve. Chicken Biriyani prepared with comparatively smaller and thinner rice and thick masala covered chicken is served with salad, pickle, pappadam and chammandhi.
Very dry tapioca served with beef masala, which has thick dry masala has a tangy tinge. Kappa and Beef Masala is one of the most sought after dish from this restaurant for its authentic local Kerala flavor. Andhra chicken and Ghee Rice is a dish for those who want to try something different from the usual chicken dishes. This dark dry dish has extreamly tangy taste due to the use of pepper balls and powder sprinkled all over the dish.
This restaurant is furnished using wooden stools and tables with granite tops. The ceiling of this place is thatched with wooden plates which makes such an enclosed space without any ventilation much cooler than it should be. Altogether this place will give you a much better experience than you hope for.
