Ali Baba & 41 Dishes- Surprised? Well it’s not a mockery of the popular folk tale- ‘Ali Baba and forty thieves’ but rather it’s the name of a restaurant in Kochi that serves excellent Thalasseri cuisines along with their own special 41 recipes that adorn the menu. Situated at Panampilly Nagar Main Avenue opposite South Indian Bank, this hotel is open every day of the week except on Muslim holidays. The best time to come here is during the dinner when all the dishes in their menu are available. This restaurant has its own specialized juice and snacks parlour called Hoja Mukku attached to it.
Ali Baba & 41 Dishes-The name itself generates enough curiosity in the mind of any passerby who comes across this place located at Panampilly Nagar Main Avenue opposite the South Indian Bank. This restaurant has another outlet at M.G.Road near Avenue Regency Hotel and is open from 12 in the afternoon till 11.30 at night. As the name indicates there are 41 special dishes in the menu other than the regularfood items. But these special recipes are not available between 3.30 pm till 7 o’ clock in the evening. So, if you want to try any of them it’s better to come during the lunch or dinner time.
The restaurant grabbed the attention of foodies because of its Malabar food preparations. Kozhi Nirachu Porichathu, Thawa Prawns, Dhum Biriyani, Attin Thala ishtue are some of the popular dishes here.
‘Kozhi Nirachu Porichathu’ is a full chicken marinated for hours with masala, deep fried in oil and then stuffed with onion filling and a boiled egg. The sizzling red chicken looks appetizing and tastes best when eaten hot.
Bit undercooked Tiger Prawns mixed with masala is what the dish ‘Thawa Prawns’ is made of. The white fleshy prawns coated in spicy masala are deliciously juicy. The service provided by the waiters here is something really commendable. They are informative and know about the dishes pretty well.
The ambience of fully air-conditioned and stylishly furnished Ali Baba & 41 Dishes makes for a perfect family outing as well as a romantic dinner date. In case you are planning for a weekend dine out here make sure to start a bit early as this place gets very crowded during the weekends.
